Join us for the 2018 wild salmon count!

For four days and three nights, you will live aboard a Wild Salmon Count boat and spend your days counting salmon, learning about the area from local guides, fishing and exploring the natural beauty of British Columbia. All meals are provided.


Day 1

  • Arrive in Campbell River to catch your afternoon flight to the Wild Salmon Count boat (your home for the next three nights!).
  • Arrive at the boat and get settled in.
  • Enjoy a nice meal as you get to know our guides, learn more about the area and complete your orientation and safety training.

Day 2, 3

  • Eat a hearty breakfast.
  • Start counting salmon. Counting methods will vary depending on the streams and location but could include:
    • Taking a small boat upstream and counting from the boat.
    • Counting in the river using a snorkel and fins.
    • Helicopter.
  • Enjoy lunch either at the count site or back on the boat.
  • Depending on the weather and location, you can choose to participate in a variety of daily activities: fishing and crab or prawn trapping, exploring on the land, sightseeing and wildlife viewing, talks from local guides, swimming, and more.
  • Arrive back at the main boat for the evening. Enjoy dinner and relax.

Day 4

  • Eat a hearty breakfast.
  • Pack up and catch your flight back to Campbell River.

  • $500 per day per person, includes:
    • flights to and from the Wild Salmon Count boat
    • All meals
    • Accomodation and fuel costs
    • Cost does not include alcoholic beverages: please BYOB
  • All money paid to the Wild Salmon Count goes towards covering expenses incurred during the count.

  • Our counts take place rain or shine. Please see our packing list for what you need to bring.
  • While you do not need to be in perfect physical shape to join us, you do need to be able to climb in and out of a small boat.
  • If you plan to fish, please purchase your fishing license in advance of your trip.
  • All meals are provided. You will enjoy many locally-inspired meals including smoked and fresh salmon, and other seafood. Please BYOB.
  • Each counting group will have a maximum of 8 people, plus two guides.
